An open letter to BULKHEAD Interactive

Give WARDOGS an
African server region

There is no African region in WARDOGS. Everyone playing from this continent connects to Europe, and the round trip decides fights before aim does. We are asking for one region. That is the whole request.

The letter

To the team at BULKHEAD Interactive,

We run a South African WARDOGS community — a Discord, a community server, and a few hundred people who bought your game at launch.

Before anything else: we love this game. A hundred players and three factions fighting over one zone is not what anyone else is making, and it has pulled our community together faster than anything we have run before. We want WARDOGS to be a long-term success — still here in three years, still growing, with our people still playing it every night. This letter exists because of that, not in spite of it. Nobody measures latency on a game they have given up on.

There is one thing we cannot fix ourselves, however we configure a server: WARDOGS has no African region.

Every player on this continent connects to European infrastructure. We measured our own lobby on 11 September 2026, the night after launch: of 24 players connected, 23 sat between 179ms and 220ms. The one outlier was a player physically in Europe, on 39ms. That gap is not a preference or a complaint about polish. In a game where an engagement is decided in a few hundred milliseconds, it decides who wins.

We are not asking you to rebuild anything. The request is specific:

  • Add an African server region — a single one, most sensibly in Johannesburg, where the continent’s peering already concentrates.
  • Or let community hosts run on African metal and have those servers appear properly in the browser, with region shown, so players can find them.

The second option costs you far less, and it is consistent with something you have already said. BULKHEAD have been clear that community hosted servers are the strongest answer to cheating in WARDOGS, because the people running them can act. We agree, and we run one. But a community server is only half an answer when the nearest place to host it is another continent.

We would also rather be honest about what we already do, because we would want to know if it were our game. Our server is hosted in Frankfurt. We are not pretending that is local. It is a European machine that a South African community plays on together, which at least means everyone in the lobby is on a similar ping instead of a few players being permanently behind. That is a workaround, not a solution, and it is the reason for this letter.

Africa is not a rounding error in PC gaming, and the people signing below are the ones who bought the game before knowing any of this. We are asking for one region so that what we already paid for plays the way it is meant to.

Either way, we are not going anywhere. We will keep the server running, keep bringing new South African players to WARDOGS, and keep telling people it is worth buying — because we think it is. We would just like them to get a fair fight when they do. Give us a region and we will fill it.

Signed,
Boet’s World — and everyone listed below

The evidence behind it

179–220msMeasured ping across 23 South African players in one lobby on our own server, 11 September 2026. Median about 197ms.
39msThe one European player in the same lobby, for comparison. Same server, same match, a different game.
0African regions in WARDOGS. Every player on the continent is routed off it.

The latency figures are read from our own server’s admin API, not estimated. We will publish updated measurements as the community grows.
